On 30 April 2026, Through Her Lens: A Thoughtful Conversation on Cultural Belonging Through Photography will bring together South Asian women in Belfast and Delhi for an intimate online exchange rooted in reflection, identity, and connection.
This special gathering is part of Radha Sutra: Stories Across Borders by FolkDeep and is also situated within Global Intergenerational Week, Glasgow, Scotland. More than just an online event, Through Her Lens creates a gentle and meaningful space where photography becomes a starting point for conversation — a way to explore memory, belonging, migration, and the personal stories we carry across places and generations.
Photography often captures more than a moment. It can hold emotion, place, memory, and silence all at once. For many people, especially those navigating multiple cultural identities, photographs become quiet archives of selfhood. They can reveal what home feels like, what displacement looks like, and how belonging is negotiated in everyday life. Through this lens, the workshop invites participants not simply to look at photographs, but to think with them — to consider how images shape the way we remember, connect, and understand who we are.
What makes this event especially powerful is its cross-border dialogue. By bringing together women in Belfast and Delhi, Through Her Lens opens up a shared yet diverse conversation on South Asian identity in different cultural and geographical settings. Though separated by distance, participants may find resonances in their experiences of memory, family, migration, womanhood, and the search for belonging. The workshop is designed to hold these nuances with care, allowing participants to reflect on their own journeys while listening to those of others.
The session will be facilitated by Natasha Bhatia, a therapeutic photographer whose practice is deeply attuned to the emotional and reflective possibilities of image-making. Her presence adds a thoughtful dimension to the gathering, helping shape a space that feels safe, intimate, and grounded. With Natasha’s guidance, participants will be encouraged to approach photography not just as visual documentation, but as a tool for expression, healing, and deeper self-understanding.
At the heart of this event is FolkDeep’s wider vision through Radha Sutra: Stories Across Borders — to create cultural exchanges that are rooted in lived experience rather than surface-level representation. The project explores how stories, rituals, artistic practices, and memories travel across borders while remaining deeply connected to place and community. Through Her Lens extends this vision through photography, offering a softer and more introspective way of holding conversation across cities, cultures, and generations.
As the event approaches, there is a quiet excitement around what may emerge from this exchange: honest reflections, unexpected connections, and shared moments of recognition. In a world that often moves too quickly, Through Her Lens offers something slower and more intentional — a chance to pause and ask how we see ourselves, how we see each other, and how images help us hold the stories that matter.
