Colors of Culture at QUB: Holi, Storytelling, Rangoli, and the Joy of Togetherness

What an incredible day it was at Colors of Culture – Holi Storytelling & Rangoli at QUB. The event was filled with colour, creativity, warmth, and a beautiful sense of togetherness that made it truly memorable. It was not just a celebration of Holi as a festival of colours, but also a gathering that brought people closer through story, art, and shared cultural experience.

From the moment the event began, there was a wonderful energy in the space. Participants came together with curiosity and openness, ready to engage with the traditions, meanings, and artistic expressions that make Holi such a deeply loved festival. What made the day especially meaningful was the way it combined cultural learning with creative participation. It was not only about watching or listening, but about experiencing the festival through storytelling and hands-on art.

One of the most special elements of the day was the Holi storytelling. Through stories and conversation, participants were introduced to the legends and meanings behind the festival — stories that carry ideas of renewal, joy, and the triumph of good over evil. Storytelling created a reflective space within the celebration, allowing people to connect not just with the surface beauty of Holi, but with the deeper cultural and spiritual narratives that shape it. These stories brought the festival to life in a way that felt both intimate and engaging.

Alongside the storytelling, the Rangoli activity added another vibrant layer to the event. Rangoli, with its intricate designs and colourful patterns, became a beautiful way for participants to explore tradition through creativity. Watching people immerse themselves in the process — selecting colours, shaping patterns, and creating something together — was truly special. Each design reflected not only the beauty of the tradition itself but also the joy of collective making. It was a reminder that cultural practices often become most meaningful when they are shared.

The atmosphere throughout the event was full of warmth, laughter, and connection. There was something magical about seeing participants engage so wholeheartedly with the colours, stories, and artistic forms of the day. These moments of participation made the event feel alive. It was not simply an organised programme, but a shared celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit.

A heartfelt thank you goes to QUB Graduate School for supporting this initiative and helping create a space where this event could happen. Their support made it possible to bring together storytelling, art, and celebration in a way that felt welcoming and enriching.

There is also deep gratitude to everyone who joined and contributed to the day’s atmosphere with such openness and joy. Events like this are only meaningful because of the people who show up, participate, and help shape the shared experience. And of course, a special acknowledgement to FolkDeep for curating an event that brought culture to life in such a thoughtful and engaging way.

At its heart, Colors of Culture was a reminder of why these gatherings matter. They allow traditions to be experienced, not just observed. They create bridges between people and communities. They turn stories into connection and creativity into collective celebration.

Until next time, may we continue to keep the colours, stories, and cultural connections alive.
